KO-NEKT believe healthy, active children and young people are more likely to succeed, become more confident in their own ability and in turn lead healthier and happier lives.
KO-NEKT offers play and peer learning as a way to encourage confidence and skills development. Our centres in Ardrossan & Ayr facilitate a wide variety of fun activities to support mental, physical and social development in every child. Experienced workers will be here each day to promote positive and safe play.
KO-NEKT offers the opportunity to seek support when required, a chance to connect with other children as well as other parents to share interests and experiences. Children and their families can reconnect with each other or join in on the weekly activities, late night weekend opening hours allows parents to take some respite out and about with friends whilst their children can stay and play.
The number of C&YP being diagnosed with an ASN has increased markedly since 2010 and continues to rise. With these increased figures, comes continual reliance from and strain on the third, public and the private sectors. The current approach is no longer effective, appropriate or sustainable. It is time for this societal change!
KO-NEKT is unique in that we think outside the box and challenge the traditional ways of providing support.
Our Centres are linked to local communities, providing choice to which activities and peer experiences are best suited to individual age, needs and development at any given time.
Our Centres provide developmental care through positive and safe play to:
During their time with KO-NEKT, every child and young person will have an individual care plan. Using the Scottish Government’s GIRFEC principles, all outcomes within the care plan are assessed using 8 wellbeing indicators, commonly known as SHANARRI.
Every young person will work towards at least one Outcomes depending upon the needs identified during their initial meeting. Reviews are then carried out every 3-months.
Parents and C&YP have the choice of when, where and how to split their time and funding (either by private payment and/or SDS Options 2 & 3). Parents have more flexibility to fit C&YP support around their schedules.
Using an App, parents/carers have access to an online platform, personalised to them, where they can book sessions, access their child’s weekly diary, personal care plan, reviews, SDS budgets, make payments and communicate with support management.
Every C&YP is fully supported to work towards their individually identified needs and goals
C&YP have a secure place to play, grow and connect with each other
Support workers are not only chosen for their qualifications, but for their passion for each C&YP to excel and be all that they can be
Play Areas support positive play, encourage creativity while developing imagination, dexterity and physical, cognitive and emotional strength.
KO-NEKT believe play is important to healthy brain development and through play.
Our indoor and outdoor play areas all have sensory toys, activities and materials, at KO-NEKT support encouragement is given to each child to help them try new activities and experiences to encourage personal development.
Day-to-day activities can be overwhelming for the senses, raising anxiety and the ability to communicate their needs.
KO-NEKT understands the benefits of ‘taking time out’ from the world to reconnect. Therefor we encourage time out in quieter spaces around our centres. We also promote the need for some children to benefit from quiet and messy sensory play which supports positive engagement with their environment, develop social skills, aid in communication and learning.
KO-NEKT outdoor play areas challenge and encourage children physically and mentally.
We understand ASN children face special challenges, they may tire faster, have limited mobility. Communication challenges, problems with social skills and sensory issues may hinder play.
However, getting kids outdoors for some playtime offers excellent physical, mental and social benefits, particularly when outdoor play is used as a teaching mechanism.
KO-NEKT does not shy away from our on-line world as we fell this is our childrens future. Our centres have full fibre WIFI just for the childrens areas,. Smart TV’s and gaming consoles are on hand for all to encourage joint play, aid communication, literacy and learning.
We will arrange for activities, that children and young people can access and aid in building friendships with those with similar interests. Todays advanced technology is sometimes labelled as being a hindrance to young peoples development, however we understand that technology can give our young people new ways to communicate to support and build positive social interactions with peers.
